Our Team

The KALA Committee consists of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary,
and five Committee Members. The Committee is selected via an election
at the Annual General Meeting and serves KALA for a 2 year term.

ken Hong, President

Originally from Seoul, Ken first came to Australia as an overseas student in 1994. He was admitted as a lawyer in NSW in 2004. Ken has more than 15 years of experience in advising and acting for clients who are private and public companies and government agencies.

Ken is an active member of the Korean and Australian community. He previously served as a council member of the Medical Council of NSW, and the president of the Korean Australian Young Leaders. Currently, Ken is the principal solicitor of the Korean Community Legal Service and an Advisory Board Member of Multicultural NSW.

Jennifer Choi, vice president

Jennifer is a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills.

She specialises in commercial Real Estate. She practised in Canberra before relocating to Sydney.

She is regularly involved with the Refugee Advice & Casework Service and was previously involved with the Animal Defenders Office as a pro-bono lawyer.

Jennifer was admitted to practice in the Australian Capital Territory in 2014.

David Kim, Treasurer

David is an Associate at MinterEllison. 

He specialises in Insurance and Corporate Risk. He was named a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards 2019 in the Insurance category.

Outside of work, his interests include basketball and food.

David was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2012 and has been a member of KALA since.

Kelly Seo, Secretary

Kelly is an Associate at the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

Kelly works in-house and advises on equity and debt transactions and has previously worked at Arnold Bloch Leibler in their corporate and M&A practice group.

She has been a member of the executive committee since 2018.

Kelly was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2016

Esther Ihn, Committee

Esther is a lawyer at Benefit Legal Lawyers, based in Sydney.

Her area of practice is personal injury.

She has a Bachelor of Law and Business from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Scott Choi, Committee

Scott is a corporate legal counsel at Cochlear.

Prior to his current role, Scott spent 7 years with Blackmores where he served in commercial and legal roles having successfully executed Blackmores’ launch into the Korean market in 2010.

Scott was the president of Korean Australian Young Leaders in 2017.

He was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2013.

John Song, Committee

John is a federal prosecutor for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. His focus is criminal law.

He previously worked as a criminal defence lawyer with the Aboriginal Legal Service and in private practice.

John enjoys brewing coffee and smoking meat (and eating them!)

John was admitted to practice in New South Wales in 2017.

Una Kim, Committee

Una is an Associate (Private Equity - Corporate M&A) at Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

In 2019, Una was an AKBC Future Leader.

Her passions outside of law include fitness, travel, start-up technology and the investment space.
