Korean Australian Lawyers Association

what we do:

Represent.

KALA’s constitutional objects include stimulating the interest and promoting the participation of its members in the activities of lawyers, and contributing to the public discussion on matters of relevance to its members. Recently KALA publicly lent its support to #UnityOverFear during COVID-19, a public campaign against the rise of racial abuse and vilification of Australians of Asian heritage.

Network.

KALA promotes collegiality by creating opportunities for lawyers, barristers, legal professionals and law students to interact and build lasting relationships of rapport, respect, and mentoring. KALA holds regular social events to encourages new members to join and interact with the committee and existing members. KALA also supports young graduates and law students by arranging mentoring groups and hosting information sessions for clerkship applications.

Learn.

KALA encourages research and educational projects for its members, such as Continuing Legal Education sessions. Many members of KALA also partake in the Korean Community Legal Service, held monthly in the Korean Consulate General in Sydney, giving back to the Korean Australian community and learning from the pro bono experiences.

KALA in 2020

COVID-19 has been a difficult year for many, and the Korean Australian community is no exception. To assist those in the Korean Australian community that may have been impacted by recent events, KALA has compiled a Korean language FAQ to important changes to laws and regulations to support those affected by COVID-19. The FAQ has been published electronically by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korean in Sydney.  To see our FAQ please click the link below.
